This is the University of Jos' - AVOIR( African Virtual Open Initiative and Resources) Project website. The initiative is to eveolve an e-learning framework for African universities to enhance the educational service delivery mechanism in tertiary institutions spread across Africa. It is hoped that this would produce robust and globally-compliant human resources that are comparable with element of globalization. Since an efficient and effective human resources are of strategic imperative to any developmental process, the e-learining argument been articulated by AVOIR gains listening ears.
This project is about harnessing the enormous potential that exists within Africa and the African diaspora to create a core of open source software developers who are able, through software development activities, to create educational and business opportunities that contribute to development on the continent. Although world class software will be produced within this project, this is not a software development project. Rather it is a project about human development, about capacity building, and about creating opportunities for people through the formation of transnational alliances both within Africa and out.
